SO WHATS IT ALL ABOUT..?
The Dark Horse Isle of Man Music Festival is all about celebrating the Isle of Man music festival, arts and culture scene and is now in its fourth year. We plan to improve the event year on year by offering: days of music, camping and good company, along with activities, workshops and stalls for the mind, body, soul, eardrums and taste buds.
Its happening over the weekend of July 19, 20, 21, at the same beautiful location Silly Moos Campsite, Ballakillingan Farm, Ramsey.
The resident cows have kindly agreed to vacate their barn for us to transform into the festivals main music stage, while the surrounding fields (as well as housing our campsites) will be alive with local food producers, artists, teachers and musicians sharing what they do.
Isle of Man Music Festival
Live musicians and DJs from both the Isle of Man music festival scene and the UK are being booked as we speak
Keep an eye on this site and our Facebook page for announcements on the Isle of Man music line-up.
The Dark Horse Music team have experience in organising Manx live events since 2008. During this time Dark Horse Music have hosted many successful Isle of Man music festival gigs with top UK festival acts. With help from other musicians and friends, we want this festival to be something that brings together community people, doing good things!
In short, were excited. However we also believe to keep our feet on the ground that modesty is the best policy. We are slowly growing the event but not in a way that is unsustainable. So if you bring yourselves, your friends, a tent and your ticket
well sort out the folk; the funk; the soul; the strings; the beats; the decorations; the campfire and everything else in our power to make it a very special time.
We are also very pleased to announce that we will be supporting a stage at the festival for Soundcheck again.
Soundcheck is a youth music charity. They provide a space for young musicians to develop their skills in music. For only £2 a session they offer fully equipped practice spaces in Ramsey, Castletown and Douglas. Young people can have instrument and band lessons and have the opportunity to record their own music in the Soundcheck recording studio. Soundcheck also runs stages at many events across the island which gives its young members the opportunity to perform as well as a chance to learn how to set up a stage for a live event and how to operate live sound and lights. Many of its members pursue a career in live events, music production or performance and go on to study these subjects at university using the skills they have learned through their experiences with the project.
On our stage we will have performances including solo acts and bands of many different genres from the Soundcheck project past and present. As well as drama and dance performances from projects at the Youth Arts Centre. Our stage will be a hub of activity for adults and young people alike as we aim to hold music workshops for all ages which will also be led by the young people. We are delighted to be part of the action this year and on behalf of the staff and young people at the project would like to thank the Dark Horse team for continuously supporting Soundcheck through its activities.
The Soundcheck team.
Please Keep Our Green Site Clean
Take small steps to use up less stuff. We all know that sinking feeling; on your way out of a festival after such a positive weekend, and walking past heaped piles of WASTE. Acres of discarded plastic cups, wrappers, bottles... tents, chairs, camping stoves... the inevitable signs of a good time?
It doesn't have to be this way!
1. BRING IT!
Bring your own refillable water bottle if possible, there is plenty of drinkable water on site. Remember to bring a cup along for hot drinks. We are hoping to organise a system at the bar which will keep wasted plastic to a minimum.
2. KEEP IT!
Abandoned tents and camping equipment is a festival classic, but why not keep hold of it and enjoy the great Manx outdoors ALL summer? Please take everything home and reuse it again or donate it to a charity shop for it to be reused.
3. LEAVE IT!
Remove all excess packaging from new items being brought to the festival. Its less to carry and leave behind.
4. REDUCE IT!
Keep a lid on your exhaust fumes (and get some quality time with fellow passengers!) by sharing lifts to and from the site. Or cycle along. Ballakillingan Farm is well served by bus services 5 and 6. And Ramsey is well served by the Electric Railway!
5. THINK ABOUT IT!
Think re-use rather than single use. A camping stove beats a disposable BBQ, and wet wipes dont degrade or compost, so please dont bring them.
Lets keep the site beautiful so we can keep coming back to enjoy this amazing festival.
